Main task storyboard

Here are 3 storyboards. The first 2 images are the developed paper storyboard with the 3rd image being the rough sketch of our scoreboard before we finalised it. The last story board is animated and hopefully provides a clearer story to our thriller.

Monday

Group planning

Before shooting, we decided to plan what to bring and work around when everyone was free to start filming. This was very helpful because then we could communicate with each other effectively.

Scouting location 3

We as a group chose to use the location that I have taken photos of (Scouting 1,2 & 3). The location is close to all of us and is Fred Shepherds house (he lives on a farm). We thought that this location would be best suited to the type of atmosphere we were trying to create. For example, behind the tree in this photo is a bank with long grass. This was very useful to film the sniper hiding before she takes the shot. This photo also captures the ditch at the very front which was used for the actors to hide in whilst the sniper was taking shots. This location seemed to work really well and the different levels of ground and the amount of land that there is, sculpted our thriller and went alongside with the script to make it all fall into place.

Thriller film titles

The Dark Knight 2008
This titles implies that there is tension and suspense. The reference of 'dark' has negative connotations , however when paired with 'knight' it is a juxtaposition. This is due to the word knight being a reference to heroes. Whereas darkness is a associated with villains.

Se7en 1995
This title is different to the others due to the fact it includes a number within the main titles. Why there is a number within the title is not clear for viewers who haven't yet watched the film, however it makes sense once you have watched the film as it will have inference to it. Once watching the film this becomes present as it is about a serial killer who kills following 7 deadly sins. In my opinion, the title ruins the plot because before even watching it the audience knows that there is something big in the film that is related to the number seven.

The Equalizer 2014

This title to me suggests revenge and the fact the characters are seeking revenge or an 'equal' understanding. It is a short title and ends with a strong powerful word. I think that this title will also be revealed throughout the film, for example what is equal, or moreover - who is equal.

Thriller Opening scenes

Quantum of solace

The Dark Knight 2008 This title implies that there is tension and suspense. The reference of 'dark' has negative connotations, however when paired with 'knight' it is a jutaposition, due to knight !eing a word reference to heroes. Darkness is associated with villains.

This film opens with an actioned pact car chase. This draws the audience in straight away as it is full on from the moment the film starts. It also allows the audience to meet the main character for the first time. The music that is playing has a lot of volume to it and this causes the audience to watch intently, wondering who will escape and who will crash.

The Dark Knight Rises

Like the James Bond opening scene, this draws the audience in. The audience are drawn in as there is a sense of danger in the place due to the fact they are all fighting and a persons head is being dangled out of the door.  It creates a tense atmosphere, however unlike in the quantum of solace, the main characters aren't revealed. Once of the main character is hidden under the bag over his head which creates a suspicious and mysterious enviornment. All the characters are wearing dark clothing which again gives off a dark atmosphere.

Preliminary Task Introduction

Myself and my group will be creating a preliminary film, to show our understanding of the task in hand. This is a very short film and will enforce our understanding of typical shot types and filming techniques used when creating our introduction scene to a feature film. For the preliminary task we were asked to produce a short scene where a character is filmed opening a door along with two characters sitting opposite each other talking. In order to suceed in this task I wrote a script as well as focussing on the different camera angles I could shoot. Also after filming, I shall be creating short clips explaining the filming techniques used which are:Match on actionOver the shoulder180 degree rule
